Mortar Matching & Tuckpointing Service

Matching mortar that has been dyed or is old and deteriorating is no easy task. There are hundreds of things that can affect mortar color and texture. The type of cement, the type of sand, how long the original mason waited before finishing the joint of the brick, the temperature that day, how much water was used, how absorbent the brick or block is, how old it is, what weather its exposed to, even which direction it's facing... these are just a fraction of the things that affect mortar color and texture.

A very close match becomes even more imperative when the repair is surrounded by the undamaged brick which essentially puts the mortar side by side for an unavoidable comparison. Despite its difficulty, sometimes it just has to be close to perfect and that's when you need to call us. Here's why...

Jimmy John's Restaurant in Herriman, UT (Before)

 Brick Burnt By Fire

Someone accidentally set a big plastic garbage can on fire that was sitting at the front entrance. Ouch! They tried everything to clean it but the brick needed to be replaced. They heard they should call us and it's a good thing they did because the repair is invisible.

Mortar Match (After)

Even with their brick being discontinued and unavailable, I was able to modify a different brick to look very close and I did this at night so that I didn't disrupt their business. They were thrilled, to say the least.

Especially after what happened previously the first time they need a masonry repair and hired someone else (shown below). Yikes! Don't let this happen to you because, in many situations, a bad mortar matching Mason will be doing more harm than good. More often than not you get what you pay for in this world.

Don't Let This Happen to You

When you hired us my guys will do some of the prep work and bring me samples of the mortar that needs to be matched. I (the owner) then do the finish work, after figuring out the match in my lab, to ensure that the quality and texture is the best it can be.
